MURDER BY DEATH Signs With VAGRANT
October 31, 2007Vagrant has announced the signing of Bloomington, Indiana's MURDER BY DEATH. The quartet's fourth full-length, "Red of Tooth and Claw", was produced by Trina Shoemaker (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, EMMYLOU HARRIS, IGGY POP) at Dark Horse Studios in Tennessee and will be released in the early spring of 2008.
"We are thrilled to be working with Vagrant and we're really excited about the new album," says Adam Turla, MURDER BY DEATH's vocalist and guitarist.
"'Red of Tooth and Claw' is about a journey filled with revenge, trials of the gods, and sirens… gorgeous, terrifying sirens. It's our most consistent album we've written, and Trina really captured the bizarre world of MURDER BY DEATH."
MURDER BY DEATH is: Turla, Sarah Balliet (cello, keys),Matt Armstrong (bass),and drummer Dagan Thogerson. The group formed in 2001 and has released three albums, including 2006's "In Bocca al Lupo", which Spin magazine said sounded "like JOHNNY CASH reworking 'Les Miserables'." Alternative Press gave the album a 5/5 rating and said, "The ties that bind MBD's tunes- cello-infused rock, classical dramatic narratives, folk-rock and alt-country spirit- serve as a robust foundation for the bands boundless musical exploration." The Guardian added, "You could call it a wonderful coupling of Hungarian folk and 1940s swing, or you could say it sounds like THE CLASH charging into a Wild West saloon bar. Either way, it's great."
The band is currently on the road performing a handful of headlining gigs and has just announced new dates with FLOGGING MOLLY that begin December 4 in Seattle. The band wraps up 2007 with two shows opening for CLUTCH at Starland Ballroom and two shows on New Year's Eve.
